Class synopsis:
A film directors perspective on working with actors (45 mins) and how to succeed in auditions (30 mins).
Auditions for film roles can be very intimidating. Everyone is staring at you, waiting for you to do something and there's a camera pointed in your face. In reality, film acting should be done with ease, and an important technique in film acting is relaxation. Why? Because the camera picks up every little thing that you do, every blink of the eye, nod of the head, and every sound you make. Any film actor will tell you that they listen and react to what's being said and ignore the camera. In this workshop Matt will show you how to ignore the camera and focus on your scene partner's eyes, the most important facial feature on film. You will also get the opportunity to ask the questions you wanted to ask a film director but never had the chance!
Workshop using scripts from Aaron Sorkin's The West Wing, and The Social Network (2 hours 45 mins).
Aaron Sorkin is the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind The Social Network, A Few Good Men and TV's The West Wing,
Improvisation to explore each actor's potential (1 hour).
Acting for film is very different to stage acting, and requires different skills. Puzzled by what makes a good film actor as opposed to a good stage actor? This improvisation workshop will answer those questions and help you to explore your potential as a film actor.
